...more

Author Rob Alef read from his Berlin thriller BANG BANG STIRBT at berlinsights, with publisher Shayol.
For all who want to enjoy BANG BANG for an exciting summer lecture, you will find the book at our neighbour's store: BerlinStory, Unter den Linden 40

August 2005

(1) The August highlight was a stop-over to Dubai, where berlinsights staff passed through from a business trip to Bangladesh. Next to towers and construction sites, the physical heat and the professional warmth of the region encouraged berlinsights to welcome future visitors to the City of Berlin - be it for Emirates travellers, Gulf research fellows or journalists and business people from the region at large. For more information on plans and offers, please contact Susanne: bauer@berlinsights.de.

(2) In addition, the month of August was filled with a get-together at berlinsights premises of some 20 Berlin tour guides and experts. The idea to create a network of Berlin experts matured, and berlinsights appears the right addressee to develop the concept further. Currently, a joint marketing initiative is in planning for February 2006 in Berlin.

In planning: Potentials and visions: small businesses in local areas
(Berlin 'Kiez' development)
Thematic talk&tour on local economic development, in cooperation with Quartiersmanagement, Kreuzberg
(1-2 hrs, Arabic/German/Turkish, plus other languages on demand)

September 2005

September highlights were
(1) berlinsights toured the topic of Islam in Berlin for the Cultural Department of the Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt, AA). Some 70 AA employees got
Berl-insights through features from the 18th to the 21st century, learning about the first Muslim diplomats, Islamic mosques and cemeteries to some no-man's land along the former Wall that has become a multi-cultural reference in the heart of Kreuzberg today.

(2) berlinsights organised a two-days study tour on the topic of Berlin-Social City for Egyptian city planers, in cooperation with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the Kreditanstalt fŸr Wiederaufbau (KfW). Covering a wide range of Berlin East-West varieties, topics included local economic development, public-private-partnership, citizen's participation at Alexanderplatz, as well as niche markets around solar energy and technology throughout the city and beyond.

Friday 09 - Saturday 10, September 2005:

October 2005

Further to the research results about the historical building Unter den Linden 40, realised by Christine Linsse during the summer at berlinsights premises
(see entry in German at: BerlinStory.de), the Dutch film director Anet von Barneveld visited us in Berlin.

berlinsights, together with cooperation partner Ralf Oberndörfer of Histox Berlin
(histox.de), is now pursuing the joint idea of making a film about the building as a witness of time. For more information, please contact Susanne: bauer@berlinsights.de.

November 2005

berlinsights started to explore partnerships with:
– FIPP e.V. (fippev.de) on youth and tourism in Berlin
– GTZ und Urbanet (gtz.de)

In her capacity as international organisation development expert, Susanne started to cooperate with the Frankfurt-based group transfer-consulting (transfer-consulting.de)

During a business trip for development work to Lao PDR and Cambodia, berlinsights was warmly received by Laotian Government staff many of whom completed their studies in the former GDR.

December 2005

berlinsights accompanied Professor Basurrah, dean of Sana'a University, Yemen, along the topic of the German reunification process: on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), future prospects along the former wall were met with the challenges of the day: a guided visit to the documentation center of the Federal Office for former GDR StaSi affairs (bstu.de) was a real highlight of the tour, bringing about valuable insights into bottlenecks of overcoming the wounds of the time.

To conclude the start-up year for berlinsights , we would like to thank our Berlin tour guides and cooperation partners, our knowledge angels and new contacts in a city of continuous change! We can proudly say that the early times when berlinsights started (just a couple of months ago) seem like 'long time ago' – but we happily remember them! see...
