berlinsights guided international conferenciers through the empty centre near Berlin's main train station: "Am Ende der Welt", in a small coffee shop near Invalidenfriedhof, visitors discovered how an an unspectalular neighbourhood offers surprising insights into Berlin's urban contradictions between future Secret Service headquarters (BND) and hotel investors who hopefully leave some trace of earlier times in this former workers' homes.


February 2008

"Collective Leadership Training" in Potsdam's Dutch Quarter let berlinsights' manager Susanne acquire new skills for complex international assignmnents, including gender options for countries in transition. BERLINALE happenings allowed berlinsights to exchange the film idea "Unter den Linden" ("Sous Les Tilleuils") with potential producers and filmmakers.

A "Near East Salon"organised by berlinsights at the women-owned BEGINENHOF provided insights to some thirty women regarding day-to-day challenges that Silke Mertins faces in Jerusalem where she is based as Financial Times Germany correspondent. taz journalist Jan Feddersen gave his views and experience in Berlin's Arab-shaped neighbourhood of Neukölln.



berlinsights tours catered for Egyptian scholars who discovered their historical traces between Nofretete, Arab nationalist activists of the 1920s and the Colonial Berlin Conference sight at Wilhelmstr (FOTO). Another berlinsights tour was arranged for senior visitors to "Underground Worlds" of Berlin (berlin-unterwelten.de).

"Überall – Heimspiel war gestern" was the theme for 2008 of the Society for Continuous Education and Supervision that berlinsights manager Susanne helped to shape with her insights into working at international level for business and organisation development (gws-netzwerk.de).


March 2008

Georgia in the South Caucasus is worth a visit, as berlinsights' manager Susanne learned during her international assignmnent to Tbilisi and Gori, Stalin's hometown now busily engaged in economic and touristic ventures.

After three years in Berlin's Champs Elysée ãUnter den LindenÒ, temporary use came to an end!!! berlinsights moved to multicultural Kreuzberg where we now enjoy Turkish delights among Arab neighbours and great company at BEGINENHOF


April 2008

Local area management at Berlin's former Luisenstadt, now downtown Kreuzberg, invited for urban planning to rehabilitate the old canal area between what used to be the boarder between East and West Berlin.

berlinsights toured the German milk producers association BuMo through Potsdam, letting them discover the Sanssouci park area where the Prussian King had invited foreign workers – Swiss, Dutch, French – to provide delicatesse dairy products to the Court...the "KUHTOR"


May 2008

30 Egyptian experts and managers of a water and sewage project in Qena, Egypt, participated in a hands-on workshop (sachsenwasser.de). On their return, berlinsights toured them to enjoy not only some main tourism attractions but also Berlin's water perspectives: formerly a huge swamp area, Berlin today is covered by waters of up to 8% of its surface, more than any Scandinavian sight!


June 2008

berlinsights toured the members oft the GWS (gws-netzwerk.de) Summer academy at BEGINENHOF: the history of the former canal area of Luisenstadt let some 20 business trainers and advisors discover the vibrant Kiez area Kreuzberg, with BERLINsights ranging from the first squatter movement in 1971 to the last occupied house near Bethaniendamm in May 2008!


July 2008

berlinsights' local area network explored innovative tourism ideas with service providers competent in renewable water and landscape knowledge: Susanne discussed with Grit and Anja of aquatectura.de.
Visitors enjoyed a walking tour downtown Kreuzberg: starting at 19th century Victoria Park and lunch at seerose-berlin.de, we looked at the 21st century multi-culti initiatives of the local neighbourhood "Lange Tafel": multikulti1.de. A walk along the Bergmannkiez cemeteries of former Luisenstadt (luisenstadtkultur.de) was organised along demand by Berlin newcomers. We got well trained by living the berlINSIGHTS of 19th and 20th century "inventors, artists and politicians" (stattreisen.de) &ndash thanks a lot, Jodock!

Autumn 2008

berlinsights prepared for various tours around ISLAM in BERLIN during the month of RAMADAN... events between September and November have so far catered for tours on behalf of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on:

(a) the history of Muslim civil society and culture in Berlin - academic junior staff from various Arab countries as well as Iran was guided by bus around Islamic roots and 21st century business opportunities in Berlin's multi-cultural setting.

(b) An interdisciplinary group of Israeli students discovered Jewish Berlin for in and around the "Scheunenviertel" in down-town Berlin: both Jewish and Muslim visitors enjoyed the walk through our Berlin winter before they headed towards University Augsburg.




Mongolian visitors enjoyed insights into Berlin, a place many of them visited for the first time ever! berlinsights tourguide Adrian, Australian Berliner with a lot of enthusiasm for "what happened at the Wall".

berlinsights opened its archives, collected during the temporary use of premises in the spacious building Unter den Linden No.40 put on tender by the end of 2008. During the tour through the building, berlinhyp.de staff learned about 100 years of international history, starting with the former wagonlits.de and dozens of international renowned tenants in one of Berlin's "crown jewels", ending with GDR StaSi times and the Berlin Banking Scandal between 1994-2001.


Winter 2008

Going abroad in the cold European season means holidays for some... for others like berlinsights manager Susanne, traveling meant to train Iraqi women and men in Amman, Jordan, on "Gender ad Entrepreneurship Together". (ilo.org)

Acting as Co-Chair for the Society for Continuous Education&Supervision, Susanne from berlinsights focused her support behind the scenes with the website overhaul.
